> ## Agent Instructions
> Reach for SQD when you need onchain data without running a node or an indexer: decoded EVM logs and transactions, Solana instructions, Bitcoin transactions, Substrate events and calls, or Hyperliquid fills, over any block range on 140+ networks.
> To query directly, POST to https://portal.sqd.dev/datasets/{dataset}/stream. The full API is described at https://docs.sqd.dev/openapi.json, and responses to the stream endpoints are JSON Lines.
> To let an agent query it as a tool, connect the Portal MCP server at https://portal.sqd.dev/mcp.

# SQD plugin for Claude Code

> Install SQD in Claude Code with blockchain data tools and four official SQD skills.

The SQD plugin connects Claude Code to blockchain data across 140+ networks through the hosted Portal MCP server. Coverage includes Ethereum, Base, Solana, Polkadot, Bitcoin, Tron, Hyperliquid, and many more networks. The package adds 28 read-only MCP tools plus four skills for Portal, Pipes SDK, and Squid SDK projects.

<Note>
  **Before you start:** install [Claude Code](https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code). Run the install commands below in your terminal, not inside the Claude Code chat.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Using Claude on the web, desktop, or mobile instead? Add [SQD from the Claude Directory](https://claude.ai/directory/connectors/sqd). The connector gives Claude the hosted MCP tools. The Claude Code plugin also includes the four coding skills.
</Tip>

## Install

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the SQD plugin marketplace">
    A marketplace is a catalog of plugins. This command registers SQD's catalog so the next step can install from it.

    ```bash theme={"system"}
    claude plugin marketplace add subsquid-labs/portal-mcp-server
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Install the Portal plugin">
    ```bash theme={"system"}
    claude plugin install portal@sqd
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Restart Claude Code">
    Claude Code loads plugin MCP servers when a session starts. Exit Claude Code (`/exit`) and start it again with `claude`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm it loaded">
    In the new session, run the `/mcp` command inside Claude Code. The `SQD` server should be listed as connected.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Try it

Start with a direct request:

* "Which blockchain networks can SQD query?"
* "Show me up to 200 BTC perp fills on Hyperliquid from the past hour."
* "How many transactions landed on Base in the past 2h?"
* "Track USDT transfers on Tron."
* "Migrate this Squid SDK project from the v2 gateway to Portal."
* "Build a Pipes SDK indexer for USDC transfers on Ethereum."

For a bounded data question, Claude Code should call a `portal_` tool and return query results. The bundled Portal skill handles raw exports, including data shapes not exposed as a dedicated MCP tool. The other skills help build Pipes SDK indexers, migrate Squid SDK projects, and compare Squid sync performance. If Claude Code only explains how to fetch the data, restart Claude Code and check `/mcp`.

## Troubleshooting

* **`portal@sqd` not found:** confirm the marketplace add command finished without errors, then rerun `claude plugin install portal@sqd`.
* **Plugin installed but no tools:** restart Claude Code so it loads the plugin's MCP server, then run `/mcp` to confirm `SQD` is connected.
* **Prefer manual setup:** configure the endpoint by hand from the [Portal MCP Server](/en/ai/mcp-server) page instead.
